The future with Octavious

One base. Any arm.

A modular mobile manipulator that picks, sorts and moves work in warehouses, greenhouses, stores and, one day, on the Moon. It never stops to charge.

Concept render of Octavious: a Remus arm with a tall lift mast, a two-link arm holding a box in its three-finger hand and a blue tote, docked on top of a white Romulus mobile base with mecanum wheels.

Meet Octavious

What it could look like

A Remus arm docked on a Romulus base. Together they drive to the shelf, pick, and carry the work away.

Remus · the arm

  1. Three-finger hand7 DOF to grip boxes, produce and cans
  2. Two-link SCARA armAbout 1.15 m of reach
  3. Lift mastAbout 1.2 m of vertical travel
  4. Onboard toteHolds picks during a run

Romulus · the base

  1. Four-pin dockLifts any Remus or Dock-Bot by 40 mm
  2. Battery revolverSix chambers that hot-swap packs
  3. Front LiDARMaps and navigates the floor
  4. Mecanum wheelsDrives in any direction
The system

Two robots that become one

Romulus moves. Remus works. Docked together they are Octavious, a mobile manipulator. Apart, one base can serve several arms and Dock-Bots.

Romulus: a low white mobile base with mecanum wheels, a smoked front visor with LiDAR, a yellow accent stripe and a battery revolver between its two pods.
01 · Mobile base

Romulus

An omnidirectional underride chassis that drives under any module, lifts it on four pins and carries it. Front LiDAR handles SLAM navigation. A six-chamber battery revolver swaps packs into whatever it docks with.

  • Drive4× mecanum

Remus: a dark docking frame on four aluminium legs carrying a lift mast and a white two-link arm with a three-finger hand.
02 · Manipulator

Remus

A lift mast with a two-link SCARA arm and a three-finger, 7-DOF hand. Parked, it runs on its own battery as a fixed station. Docked, Octavious becomes a mobile shelf picker.

  • Reach~1.15 m
  • Vertical travel~1.2 m
  • Hand3 fingers · 7 DOF
  • PowerHot-swappable pack
Dock-Bot: a grey docking table on four aluminium legs holding four cardboard destination boxes and a small status screen.
03 · Docking module

Dock-Bot

Packing tables and box carts built on the Remus footprint. Romulus docks under any Dock-Bot and moves work between stations without fixed conveyors. The dock is the product.

  • Box Dock-Bot4 destinations
  • Onboard powerNone needed

Specifications are design targets for the concept and will change as the prototype is built.

Use cases

One fleet, four worlds

The same Romulus bases, Remus arms and Dock-Bots run every job below. Only the end effector, the racks and the destinations change. Pick a world to load it into the simulation.

01 · Logistics

Warehouse

Remus pickers ride Romulus down the aisles and pick from two shelf levels into an onboard tote. Sorters pack each item into one of four destination boxes, and Romulus swaps full Dock-Bots out to the dock doors.

02 · Agriculture

Greenhouse harvest

Harvesters work the grow tables row by row, picking tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and aubergines. Graders sort by crop into crates, and Romulus carries full crate Dock-Bots into the cold room.

03 · Retail

Store order picking

Overnight or in quiet hours, Octavious picks online orders straight from the store shelves. Packers split items into four customer bags, and Romulus delivers them to the collection lockers.

04 · Space

Moon base logistics

In one-sixth gravity, loaders pull ice cores, regolith samples, minerals and seed stock from supply bays. Sorters crate them for each habitat module and Romulus moves them to the airlocks. Solar power charges the packs.

Fleet math

Why one base serves two or three arms

3Romulus bases
7Remus arms
0trips off the floor to charge

Arms spend most of their time working in place. Navigation, drive and power only need to be present when something has to move, so a single base can keep several arms productive.

The pick cells run two pickers per base: one unloads at the conveyor while the other is out in the aisle. The sort cell runs three sorters per base, with Romulus handling Dock-Bot swaps and battery service.
